Yanga Clear out 12 players
Dar es Salaam. Young Africans have offloaded 12 players including their captain and stalwart defender Shadrack Nsajingwa, The Citizen has learnt.
A source privy to the club’s registration committee confirmed the mass clear-out to The Citizen yesterday, hinting that Yanga would move swiftly to replace them.
The official disclosed that the club has also ended its marriage with Ghanaian Kenneth Asamoah and Zambian Davies Mwape.
Shadrack Nsajigwa
Yanga, who finished third in the 2011/13 season, missed a chance represent the country in Caf organised championships and now face a rough time to attract top talents.
“After a careful assessment of the squad, the registration committee has decided to drop 12 players. This is a testing time because we have build a largely new-look team for next season,” the source said.
He named other players who will not feature for the Jangwani Street heavyweights as; Shamte Ali, Chacha Marwa, Kigi Makasi, Pius Kisambale, Zuberi Ubwa, Abuu Ubwa and Godfrey Bonny.
“It is not normal for a club to offload as many players as Yanga have done, but we had no option for we need to restore our pride and you cannot do so by maintaining under performing players,” he said.
According to him, Nadir “Canavaro” Haroub would also be axed after displaying shoddy performances last season, but dropping him would depend on the availability of a good replacement.
Nurdin Bakari
The source also said the committee was still discussing the prospects of keeping midfielder Nurdin Bakari whose contract will expire next year.
“Canavaro and Bakari have also been blacklisted, but I can’t confirm whether they will remain at Yanga for next season or not,” he said.
Bakari and Nsajigwa were accused of sabotaging the team during a 5-0 crushing by archrivals Simba in their final League match in April.
Yanga, who are still searching for a new coach after Kostandin Papic left the club, have already captured midfielder Nizar Khalfan who was plying his trade in the US.
“He is a good addition to the squad, he signed a one-year contract and we expect to draft in some few experienced and brilliant players,” the source said. Yanga face a tall order to defend their Kagame Cup title next month with a new squad.
